The Justinian “Solidus” Ring
A 1,500-Year-Old Imperial Gold Treasure
$18000
This is not a reproduction; it is a survivor. Minted between 527-565 AD, this authentic Byzantine Gold Coin (Solidus) bears the portrait of Justinian the Great, the emperor who built the Hagia Sophia.
Ancient gold coins are incredibly rare, as most were melted down over the centuries. This pristine artifact features the Emperor on the obverse and an Angel holding a Cross on the reverse. We have encased it in a modern, edgy 18k Gold Chain-Link Setting. It is a collision of ancient history and modern fashion—cool, powerful, and absolutely unique.
“The dollar of the Middle Ages, renowned for its purity.”
In the 6th century, the Byzantine Solidus was the most trusted currency in the world due to its stable, high gold purity (approx. 95-98% pure gold). This ring features a genuine Solidus from the reign of Justinian I. While silver coins tarnish, this ancient gold shines as brightly today as it did 1,500 years ago. It is a tangible connection to the “Golden Age” of Byzantium.
💎Rare Survivor: Unlike ancient silver or bronze coins, gold coins were the first to be melted down during wars or economic crises. Finding a Justinian Solidus in such excellent condition is a feat for any collector.
✨Iconography: The front depicts the profile of Justinian I in helmet and armor, symbolizing military might. The back features a rare depiction of an Angel (Victory) holding a long cross, representing divine protection.
🎨Edgy Modern Setting: We avoided a traditional bezel. Instead, the coin is wrapped in a thick 18k Gold Chain-Link design. This “Chain” motif symbolizes the unbroken link between the past and present. It is a unisex statement piece that looks stunning on both men and women.
Is the coin pure gold?
Byzantine Solidus coins were minted with very high purity (usually around 23-24 karat). We have set this soft, ancient gold into a durable 18k Gold ring mount to ensure it can be worn safely every day.
Who was Justinian I?
Justinian I (483-565 AD) was the most famous Byzantine Emperor, known for rewriting Roman law (Code of Justinian) and building the architectural wonder, the Hagia Sophia. Wearing his image is wearing a symbol of ambition and legacy.
